“God is our refuge and strength.” – Psalm 46:1
Perhaps nothing in the world seems as immovable as a mountain. However, according to geological scientist, the earthquakes that shook Nepal in April actually moved Mount Everest 1.5 inches southwest. Previously the world’s highest peak had been gradually moving northeast for about four centimeters a year. It raises the question for me, where do you go when you get shaken by life’s troubles? When life begins to cave in, we often find the things that we counted on begin to let us down, other people, money, looks, talent, and jobs. None of those things are bad. The trouble is they are all shakable. When trouble comes, I hope you will make God your refuge and strength and immerse yourself in Him. Psalm 46 says, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear,…though the water should change, though the mountain should shake and the heart of the sea the waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble within its tumult.” When you make God your refuge and strength, you will find that even if Mount Everest moves that God will still be standing and so will you.
