We were able to see the place where Dr. King was shot after lunch on Saturday. It was one of those unplanned experiences that touched our hearts. At the Lorraine Motel, we saw the balcony where Dr. King was standing when he was shot. A security officer came up to the group and began to share his story. He was 18 years old at the time and had heard Dr. King’s speech, participated in the sit-ins and witnessed the shooting. He said he doesn’t usually share with groups but felt he needed to share his story with us. He told us that young people can and should make a difference in the world. He encouraged them to stand up for what is right. His words were spoken from his heart and from his own experiences. He was the first of many blessings we received in Memphis. By Susan Rief
