John 11:25-26 “I am the resurrection and the Life and those
who believe in me will live even though they die, and whoever lives
and believes in me will never die.”
I read the strangest thing this week. The town of Sellia in Italy has a new law against dying. I am not kidding. With the birth rate in decline and the population shrinking, the mayor decided they couldn’t afford to lose any more residents. Part of the law imposes a fine on people who fail to go in for an annual physical and otherwise live unhealthy lifestyles. Now I don’t think the Italians are going to have much luck with that law because everybody is going to die. But I do have some good news. For those who believe in Jesus Christ, death is not the end. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the Life and those who believe in me will live even though they die, and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.” You can’t stop death by trying to create laws, for there is a higher law. It doesn’t come from a mayor, but from the King of Kings. He’s the only one who has conquered death, so He’s the only one who can change the rules. And He has changed the rules. Those who believe in Him, even though they die, yet shall they live. Do you have that assurance in your heart today?
