“The light shines in the darkness and the darkness can never extinguish it.” – John 1:5
The longest burning light bulb in the world is found in a fire station in Livermore, CA. It was first turned on in 1901 and has been burning ever since. That is amazing. The headline on the website of the fire station reads, “Don’t worry! The light is still burning.” How could it last that long? It’s a 40 watt bulb and the low wattage helps. It has not been turned on and off constantly. It has been turned off only three times in all these years. It was handmade and the seal is perfect, which has kept the vacuum in the bulb so that the filament hasn’t disintegrated. I love those words, “Don’t worry! The light is still burning.” The Bible says that there is a light that shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never put out the light. When we trust God we can always know that no matter how dark it gets, how big our problems, how huge the obstacles, He will give us all the light we need to keep going and to find our way. Maybe you are going through a dark time right now. Maybe the darkness of depression, grief, loneliness, or pain is overwhelming you. But the good news is – don’t worry; the light is still burning. Trust your darkness to God, and He will guide you back to light and life again.
