Psalm 86:6-7 “Won’t you revive us again so your people can rejoice in you? Show us your unfailing love, O Lord, and grant us your salvation.”
I was leaving Baptist East Hospital last Wednesday night, and there was a lady in the parking lot who was having car trouble. She asked if I could help her. It seemed her battery was dead. If she knew how mechanically inept I was, she would have immediately looked elsewhere for help. The problem was her car wouldn’t start. She had jumper cables in her trunk and luckily her car problem was the only car problem I knew how to fix. All she needed was a jumpstart, and she was back going again. Does your faith need a jumpstart? Is your spiritual battery running dead? Are you not as close to God as you used to be? Have you been so busy with other stuff that you have lost a connection to God? Are you caught up in some sinful behavior that is creating a mess in your life and separating you from God? Have you drifted away from the things that matter the most? Is the stuff of this world weighing you down? Maybe you need a jumpstart. In the Bible a jumpstart is called a revival. In Psalm 86 the psalmist was praying for a revival. We need revival to connect our hearts to God’s heart, to move us from bondage to stuff in this world to freedom in Christ, to cause us to see our sin and repent and find forgiveness and new life. Pray for revival. Pray for God to show up in fresh, convicting, convincing, and revealing ways in your life. And remember, revival always begins when we are on our knees before Him.
