READ: 2 Corinthians 6:2
Virginia and I went on a walk this morning. When I walk by myself, I have a goal to get to the end of my three mile trip as quickly as I can to get my heart rate up and to try to get healthy. When I walk with Virginia it takes forever to walk those three miles. She is not near as intent on getting to the destination as she is enjoying the journey. She stops all the time. Today she stopped to pick up trash, to save a baby turtle that was crossing the road, to pick up an injured butterfly, and to observe a king snake on the shoulder of the road. I got reminded this morning that the most important moment of life is this moment. We stay in such a hurry rushing here, running there, climbing this ladder, thinking about what is next, and finishing our to-do list. Sometimes we focus on the past and end up trying to drive our life out of our rearview mirror, and in the process we miss the goodness and the wonder and the miracles and the presence of God in the moment. Savor your moments. Mother Theresa once said, “Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow is not yet come. We have only today, so let us begin.” Remember that now is the day of God’s favor.
