READ: Matthew 13:45-46
Did you read about the woman in Tennessee who bought a plate of oysters and got a whole lot more than she bargained for? She put an oyster into her mouth and pulled out a pearl. A nice surprise, but something restaurant owners say is not that uncommon. However, they just kept coming. By the end of her last oyster she had found 51 pearls. Now, Jesus had once said that the kingdom of God is like man who found a pearl at a great price, and sold all that he had just to get that one pearl. I think we all would like to pay a few bucks for a dinner and walk away with 51 pearls, but far better to find in Jesus the eternal, joyful, abundant life of God that is worth far more than anything you could ever give up to obtain it. Remember if you have everything but you don’t have Jesus, you have nothing. If you have nothing but have Jesus, then you have everything.
