Make sure you read this parable from Jesus before you read the rest of the devotional. The man in Jesus’ story had been greatly blessed. He had more than enough. He took his blessings, tore down his barns and built bigger barns. He said, “I will store up all my grains and goods. I will have enough to get through anything.” He never considered solving his storage problem by turning it into a distribution problem. He could have solved his problem of abundance by giving some of it away, but that never crossed his mind. He never thought, “What shall I return to the Lord for blessing me?” He only thought of getting more space to keep and hoard what he had. I am fascinated by the television show called, Storage Wars. People rent storage facilities because they need a place to store their stuff. We pay for stuff and then we pay somebody to store our stuff. It’s kind of nutty. It’s a billion dollar business. On the show when people don’t pay their storage bill, their stuff gets auctioned off to folks who make their living by selling your stuff to others who want more stuff. Then one day they will have more stuff and they will have to pay someone to have their stuff stored. Give it away. The best that God has for us in this life is found in distribution and giving, not in hoarding and storing. Ultimately, the only thing that any of us keep is what we give away. Ponder that thought today.
