I like the dark in the morning. While Tim and the dogs are still sleeping, I turn on the coffee and sit in quiet and stillness and watch the deer and the birds at first light. The problem with the dark is the inability to see clearly when I have to make choices. This morning in the dark, I turned the microwave on to heat milk for my coffee for 30 minutes instead of 30 seconds – blowing up the cup in a mass of yuckiness. To clean up the mess, I reached under the sink and grabbed a bottle of deer stopper, thinking it was Windex and began spraying. It’s hard to describe the awful smell of deer stopper. We have all done some of the dumbest things in the dark. The bible teaches us that we aren’t to make choices except in the light. Jesus warns us about the dark. He tells us over and over not to walk in darkness. And, it’s really so simple – just live in the light. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness because you have the light that leads to life.” When you walk in the Jesus way, you will always be able to find the right way through the darkness.
