Did you read this week about the couple in northern California who were walking their dog on their property and noticed a canister jutting out of the ground? They dug it up. It was filled with gold coins. They found eight other cans on their property filled with treasure. This buried treasure of old coins is believed to be worth an estimated $10 million dollars. Wow. There is nothing like finding a treasure. The story of our life is sort of like a treasure hunt. We spend a lot of time and energy and resources in our life trying to find those things that we believe will be most valuable for our life. We are always searching for the treasure that will bring us the greatest satisfaction. This parable of Jesus reminds us of that the greatest treasure, the one thing that gives life its deepest meaning is knowing Jesus Christ as Savior, trusting your life to Him, living for Him, and seeking to become more like Him. The greatest treasure is Jesus. You can find a whole lot of valuable things in this life, but the greatest treasure, a conscience free of guilt, an absolute assurance that you will live forever with God, a confident conviction that God has a beautiful plan for your life, profound peace and joy and hope and purpose is found in Jesus Christ. So if you are looking or treasure, seek God first.
