Handling change is a difficult thing. It is really hard to let go of the things that are familiar. It is hard to leave behind old habits, attitudes, feelings, and behaviors. We have a way of clinging tightly to the familiar, even if the familiar is no longer the right thing for our life. Lot’s wife wasn’t able to let go of her home in Sodom, even though Sodom was a place of sin and God had warned her to leave because of a coming judgment. She just couldn’t let go. And because she looked back, holding on to the familiar, she was turned into a pillar of salt. She missed the beautiful new future that God had for her because she was too busy looking back and clinging to the old. What are you holding on to that you need to let go of? Is there some old anger, some grudge, some resentment, some hurt, some grief, some sinful behavior that you just can’t seem to let go? Is it a bad habit? You might not turn into a pillar of salt, but your heart can become hardened when you hold on too tightly to what once was. There is a time to let go and move on to the new life that God has for you. Maybe that time for you is today.
