Day 3 of the 2013 YWA Choir Tour proved to be just as interesting as the previous two days! More so, in fact, because we all received a living History lesson when we visited a Veteran’s Home in Cape Girardeau, MO. There were Veterans there who fought in World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam Nam, and Desert Storm, and they all shared their experiences with us. One gentleman, a veteran of WW II who was stationed in the Solomon Islands, cried as he told us about the brothers in arms he’d lost during the war. All of us were deeply touched, especially our young people – most of whom had only read about the war in a textbook. When our group sang the “Star Spangled Banner”, every one of the Veterans present struggled to stand at attention; even those who were confined to wheelchairs! The WW II veteran I was sitting with desperately wanted to stand but could not. He tearfully told me he was unable to rise to salute the flag of the United States. I told him that we would stand for him. He held my hand and sang the National Anthem loudly and clearly! What a true inspiration! The past three days have been amazing and we have all learned so much from everyone we’ve encountered! God is truly working through our young people, and we are all being blessed by this experience!
