What a wonderful day it has been. I woke up and before the sun was out, the temperature outside was so cool that it felt like it didn’t exist. Wow! We ate our breakfast and went out to visit people in their homes in Leveque. I was so amazed at how much of the experience I was able to soak in, in such an amount of time. We were there for about three hours and we got to see so much of the things we could never even imagine to be going on. I met about seven families, they were all so wonderful, they had great attitude about things, and when we asked if there was anything they needed praying for, most of them requested rain. It’s hot and very dry, and in order to have food these people plant lots of crops to be able to feed themselves along with their families, so, if not only we pray for them, but you do as well, it would mean so much to all the people here!! Prayers are answered of course, and all of our prayers for rain for the Haitians would be more than appreciated!
There was one lady that I met and she asked for prayer for her spiritual life because she had a curse put upon her life and she’s still so strong and believes in Christ and needs his help. After the home visits we came back to our home in Bercy for lunch and we were out to do VBS. I was so impressed to see all the people who had shown up from our invitations earlier in the day. There were lots of kids and parents that we had invited earlier in the day. When the activities began everyone was so happy to have so many Americans around with big smiles and with open arms of love. I was scared at first, wondering what’s going to happen since I don’t speak Creole and the deaf sign language is a little different than I was taught. So I hung around anyone I knew, and then saw my mom had pulled out some nail polish to do little girls toe nails. When these girls saw all of that action, the nail polish group began to grow by the second. I had these little girls ask me to paint their nails and when they were done they were so happy. This made me think about how happy these little girls were with such a little simple thing that they don’t ever get and how much we are given and we take it for granted or just absolutely don’t appreciate. We need to appreciate everything even with the smallest ability is better than none. Don’t ever take things for granted or not appreciate it because there are other people in the world that aren’t able to get a hold of the things that we have. Prayers for the people here are greatly needed and definitely appreciated. So please be a part of the praying.
What a small but wonderful gift for the little girls and for you, too, Nadia. With your writing, I pictured the whole scene. I’m so glad you took the time to document it for the rest of us. Don’t worry about language in a foreign country – a smile is a great opening gift in any language! I’m wrapping you and your mom in prayer throughout each day.
