Saturday morning we left Frazer as a group of folks going on a mission trip and by the time we landed in Haiti, having meet three of our team from Texas in Atlanta, we were a team. We made the trip to Mission of Hope Bercy Campus. Wow, what an awesome place. When we were ready for bed, the staff tried to get the generator going to supply power, but they had trouble. It was hot, humid and dark. Sometime during the night they replaced to old generator with a new one and the power came. Unfortunately for the guys, we were asleep and we did not have anything turned on, so we probably lost 5-10 pounds of sweat just sleeping. The women were smarter, they had their electricity turned on and slept nicely.
Sunday we were up and ready to go the Leveque for Church. We got there and the hearing service was going on while the deaf were having Sunday school in the back of the church. Both were awesome to be a part of. It was great seeing some old friends there – Mackenson, Pastor William and his wife Berthide. Afterwards, we met with the community champions to discuss our plans for VBS. That went well. We then returned to Bercy for dinner, a traditional Haitian meal of rice and beans, chicken, fried plantains and that wonderful red sauce (boy do I want to get the recipe for that sauce!). We then prepped for VBS and crashed.
