An ancient Christian Monk by the name of Abba Poemen said, “The nature of water is soft. That of a stone is hard, but if a bottle is hung above the stone allowing the water to fall drop by drop, it wears away the stone. So it is with the word of God. It is soft and our heart is hard, but the one who hears the word of God often opens his heart to God.”
It is amazing how the word of God has a way of softening our hearts, bringing peace to our souls, and healing to our hurts. I hope that you will ponder Psalm 119 today. It is the longest chapter in the Bible, but it is a chapter about the word of God. There is a lot in the Bible that I do not understand, but there is a lot that I do understand. And the more I hear the soft and gentle words of God, the more the hard places in my heart and the hard circumstances in my life are weakened and softened and replaced with the peace of God. Today, commit yourself to continually be in those places where you can hear the word of God and your heart will become open to all that God has to give you.
