The truth of this parable is this – The story will end. ALL stories have a beginning, a middle, and an end. Christ, the Bridegroom, is going to come again one day, and history, as we know it, will come to an end. Jesus said in Matthew 24:14, “The end will come.” The Bible says we don’t know when the end will be. We don’ t know the day or the hour, but when Jesus returns, He wants us to be like the wise bridesmaids—to have oil in our lamps, to have our spiritual houses in order. He wants us to have repented of our sins and accepted Him as Savior and Lord and to be living for Him. He wants us to be part of the celebration and to experience the joy of the Lord on His return. He doesn’t want us to be like the otherwise—unprepared, complacent bridesmaids. He doesn’t want us to find the door shut. Nothing could be worse than hearing God say, “I do not know you.”
Don’t be fooled. There will be a day when time runs out and the Lord will return and the door to the Kingdom will be closed. If the Lord were to return today, would you be ready? Would He know you?
