Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control.”
Online retailer Amazon is testing a technology called Dash. They are little wireless transmitters with one button to order a product. For example, you could put a Dash button in your laundry room and when you get low on detergent, you push the button and in a couple of days Amazon will deliver more to your door. You program them for the particular product you want to buy. People have buttons too. When someone pushes your buttons you may deliver anger, resentfulness, worry, fear, or stress. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Allowing emotions to control us is not godly. The pathway to self control is found in our walk with God. Begin prayerfully by admitting that your emotions are influenced greatly by your sin, then submit your emotions, your temper, your anxiety, your fears to Jesus. Allow Him to do His work in your heart and to tell you how to respond. Over time, as you submit, God will renew your mind and God will produce in you self control. With God’s help, you can reset your buttons so that they deliver love, joy, peace, and patience. If you don’t like what happens when your buttons get pushed, maybe it’s time to do some reprogramming by submitting your emotions to Jesus.
