READ: Mark 4:35-41
I have always liked the story in the scripture of the day that Jesus and His disciples were in a boat and they got caught in the middle of a really bad storm. The disciples are panicking in the middle of that storm, but Jesus was sound asleep. It upset them that Jesus was sleeping during the storm. That Jesus slept through the storm was not evidence that He did not care for them. It was evidence of his calm assurance that He knew that God’s power was greater than the storm. The disciples panicked because their source of security was in the boat, and it was sinking. Jesus had peace because His source of security was found in the Father’s love and in the Father’s power. He knew a profound truth – that God’s power to save Him from the storm was far greater than the storm’s power to destroy Him. Jesus woke up, spoke to the wind, and said, “Be still,” and the storm stopped. It is one of the greatest truths I know, that God’s power to save you in the midst of the storm is far greater than the storm’s power to destroy you. Are you facing a storm right now? What is your greatest fear: death, cancer, failure, fear of being alone, rejection, old age, not having enough money, losing control, pain, change, sickness, the future, not measuring up? Remember today, no matter what the storm, when you trust in Jesus, His power to save you in the storm is far greater than the storm’s power to destroy you.
