Jesus said, “Continue in my word and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” The Greek word for continue is meno, which means continue, abide, hold onto, remain. So Jesus is saying if you hold on to my word, you will know the truth. The New Jerusalem Bible translation of this verse that says, “If you make your home in my word, you will know the truth.” The more you dwell with someone, the more you know them. Virginia and I have known each other our entire lives. We played together as children. However, we really didn’t know each other until we began to dwell together every day in marriage. When we first got married, we learned things about each other we didn’t know, some good and some annoying things. Through the years we have learned deeper truths. We have learned what makes each other sad and happy and much more. We have had some ups and downs, but we have abided. We have made a home and after 38 years, our life together is better than ever. Jesus said make my word your home. Hold on to the word. In the ups and downs of life dwell in the word and you will know the truth. When you are living in God’s truth, you will be blessed. Only the truth can bless you. So commit today to make your home in God’s word. If you do, you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.
