READ: John 10:10
Wayne Wells was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dothan for 50 years. He died a few years back right before Christmas. Before he died he wrote his own obituary. This was the first line of his obituary: “I have been motivated by the belief that the lives of all people are better when they have a conscious relationship with God through Jesus Christ.” Wayne Wells was absolutely right. Jesus said, “I have come that you might have life and have it abundantly.” That was Jesus’ way of saying that life is better when you have a relationship with Him. He did not say that life would be easier or that you would never face hard stuff. But, life is better with Jesus because you never have to worry about your past. It has been forgiven. You never have to stress about your present because Jesus will show you the way to peace. You never have to worry about your future because you know you are going to heaven. Life today is better when you know in advance that your future is secure. As we journey to Christmas let’s not forget that, in the midst of all the commercialism and consumerism, that Christmas is about Jesus, about salvation, about life.
