READ: PSALM 92:1-5
Over the last couple of years I have lost a good deal of weight. I don’t want to say I’ve been dieting, because the reality is I’ve been on a life transformation journey with God. Losing weight is more than just a diet. It has been, for me, more about surrendering an undisciplined part of my life to God. As part of the journey I have eaten a lot of fruits and berries. I don’t like fruits and berries. I have eaten strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries. I am pretty burned out on berries, but I did discover in all of this that there is a berry that grows in Africa called miracle fruit. You take food that is unpleasant or bitter and you eat it with this berry and it will taste sweet. Now that’s my kind of berry! One of the berry’s chemical ingredients is called miracleon. Thus, the berry is called a miracle berry.
Gratitude, thanksgiving, and saying ‘thank you’ is like a miracle berry. When you poor out gratitude, it just adds sweetness to life. Gratitude can bring sweetness in the midst of the sour and bitter moments. Gratitude has miracle-working power. Maybe that’s why the scripture says, “It is good to give thanks to the Lord.”
