As I teach my 15-year-old daughter to drive, she is hoping for all green lights and “that all those other cars will stay away” so she can keep going full steam ahead. I think the phrase I hear myself saying most often as she drives is, “Let’s ride the brake right here!” In other words during this new adventure of hitting the roads with my teenaged daughter behind the wheel, I’m calling for things to slow down or stop while she’s eager to run the race! It’s interesting how the emotions of driving translate to life. We all want “green lights” ahead, don’t we, for ourselves and our plans? When something we really want seems to get derailed, from a world view, that’s a red light. When someone or circumstances crowd our desires or “get in the way,” those are just cars or obstacles blocking what we know God wants in our lives! Scripture tells us to trust in the Lord, rather than our own understanding–maybe, just maybe those “red lights” and “obstacles” are meant for our good. And as a mom, I trust the days ahead are filled with hope and a beautiful future, so I can’t keep the brakes on forever, nor can I desire to look back as my daughter plows ahead. What are you calling for in your life: Brakes or Green Lights? Let’s let our Savior drive and trust even when the road is filled with turns and unexpected detours, we are traveling along His straight and faithful path.
