II Corinthians 5:8 – “We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.”
Growing up on a farm we were always outside doing something, and whenever it was lunchtime or dinner time, Momma would always ring a loud bell calling us to come home. We were almost always in the middle of doing something and we wanted to finish and we didn’t like being interrupted. But when Momma called, you didn’t delay. I thought about that when I read a devotional today from my friend Dan McKeever. A man of strong faith was told he had little or no chance to survive the cancer that the doctors had found in him. He was certain he was too young to die. He went to the best treatment center in the country and they were successful for a while, but eventually even they had to give up. He asked a friend, “Why weren’t my prayers answered?” Jesus answered that question many times. When the Father invites us to join us Him for all eternity, it is not usually left up to us as to whether it is convenient or not. He’s not unlike your momma. When He calls, it is time to drop whatever you are doing and head home. – Virginia Thompson
