Virginia loves birds. She takes hundreds of pictures of birds who land on her many feeders outside of our kitchen windows. The truth is we are a welfare restaurant for all the birds in the neighborhood. We are bird seed poor. Thinking about that, I saw a picture that another photographer took of a weasel riding through the air on the back of a woodpecker. The weasel thought he had a free lunch when he jumped on the back of the woodpecker, but the bird was able to shake the weasel off and fly away. I suspect that both of those animals needed a chill pill after that experience. It makes me think that if that bird had been flying higher the weasel would never have been able to get on his back. Sin is sort of that way. When you hang around in low places doing low things the consequences will soon bring you down. If you want to stay free, then you have to keep your feet planted on high ground. Walk in the word of God. It will keep you out of low places where sin will destroy your life. I suppose that is what the Psalmist meant when he said in Psalm 1, “Don’t follow the advice of the wicked or stand around with sinners, but delight in the law of the Lord. Meditate on it day and night.” Remember to keep your feet on high ground today.
