Not long ago in our home we put in some new lighting over the kitchen table. It is operated by a normal light switch that flips on or off, but it also has a little piece that you can move up or down to make the light brighter or softer. It is called a dimmer switch. I have a question for you to ponder. Why isn’t it called a brightener switch? Do you think maybe the person who invented it and called it a dimmer switch was a gloomy, grumpy, negative, pessimistic person? I prefer to think of it as a brightener switch. When you move it the light gets brighter. There are enough dimmers in this world. This world needs brighteners. Maybe that is why Jesus said to His followers that we are to be the light of the world or why the Apostle Paul said, “You are light of the Lord; now go live as children of the Light.” The closer we get to Jesus, the brighter His light will shine in our lives. Are you a brightener of people around you, or are you a dimmer of people around you? Are you a joy carrier for others or a joy killer? Today, ask God to help you be a brightener, a light bringer, and a joy carrier in this world. The brighter you shine, the better your day and the better someone else’s day will be.
