If you have the opportunity to watch a new-born calf, you will notice that he will lie still while the mama cow licks and cleans him. After a few minutes, he will get up on wobbly legs and begin to nurse. And then he will take his first few steps away from his mama. If he comes to a mud puddle, he will jump it. Here is the question – How does a new-born calf, who has never seen a mud puddle, know to jump the mud puddle? How does he know not to step into the water? Something is ‘in him,’ something inside him told his brain to jump the mud puddle. When you and I have a salvation experience a new birth occurs. And from the moment of our new birth, the Holy Spirit begins to whisper, to teach and to guide us. This Spirit wasn’t ‘in us’ before our new birth, but is placed by God in all believers. And He tells our hearts which paths to take and which paths to avoid. With each step, from that new birth forward, we have the Spirit guiding us into Truth , the Holy Teacher leading us in paths of righteousness every step we take.
