Anyone who has ever planted a garden knows that a package of seed is worthless until those seeds are put in the ground. I don’t understand all the processes of growing stuff, but I do know that that my job is to plant the seed, nurture the soil, and water it. I can’t make the seed grow, and I certainly can’t make it grow on my time schedule. I have been learning a lot about gardening. Virginia is a country girl. She knows all about gardening. I knew nothing. In our first garden, we worked hard planting the garden, tilling the dirt, and planting the seed. When the plants first started coming up, I was so excited. I figured in a few days I would be picking vegetables. No one told me in takes weeks and weeks to get to the harvest. I wanted instant results. I kept on piddling in the garden, checking it every day, and finally one day it was picking day. I was reminded that the greatest miracle in the world is working along with God to plant the seeds of faith in the world and then to nurture them along until, eventually, ever so slowly, the world begins to change. Our task is to be patient, to not try and hurry up the harvest, but to nurture the seeds we plant. God will take care of the harvest in His time.
