Thanksgiving Day is more than merely being thankful for many blessings. Thanksgiving Day is a reminder to practice a “spirit of thanksgiving” throughout our life.
Think about it this way: Thanksgiving Day comes around each and every year whether or not you feel particularly thankful. It may very well be that this Thanksgiving will be a tough one for you and your family. When so many people are out of work, losing homes, struggling financially, stricken with illnesses, suffering from the loss of loved ones, or grieving the brokenness of relationships, nonetheless Thanksgiving Day is still coming the fourth Thursday of November. There is no stopping Thanksgiving Day!
I have learned through all life’s ups and downs that a “spirit of thanksgiving” produces a “spirit of thankful living.” This is exactly what these two Bible verses remind us about today. Thanksgiving Day offers us so much more to think about. This time of the year is a reminder that God’s promises are true in the valleys of life as well as the mountaintops. Are you able to thank God in everything, in all life’s ups and downs? In this way, you will begin to “live thankful” everyday not just “be thankful” one day out of the year
