We all have done it: running from God as if there is a place where God is not.
As a young boy, I remember packing my suitcase to run away from home. I made my way down the stairs, out the front door, down the driveway, and onto the road to freedom! Sure it felt good for about 5 minutes, but then the need for direction and guidance kicked in. I sat by a stop sign at a crossroad for quite a while trying to figure it all out. What I didn’t know was that my mom was parked nearby watching my every move, making sure I was safe as I pondered my next steps.
We try to run from problems, from life, from God…but God never runs from us and never leaves alone! It seems kind of arrogant, really, to think we can outrun God considering everywhere we go belongs to the Creator. Jonah knew the truth of Psalm 139, but still he ran. And from time to time we still run too. But isn’t it nice to know that even when we run, God is nearby watching, waiting, and wondering when we will choose to come home
