When God calls Jonah to go to Nineveh, Jonah goes the opposite way. He runs from God. He gets on a boat that is sailing to anywhere but to Nineveh. But he does not find peace.
God sends a storm that leads to Jonah getting thrown overboard, then sends a great fish to swallow him. That gives him time to think about things. God refuses to give up on him. As soon as he gathers his senses on dry land, God comes and calls him again to go to Nineveh. God just won’t leave Jonah alone! When God calls you to do something, you have to go do it. God will not let it
go. He will not let go of you, and you won’t be able to find God’s peace until you say yes to God’s call. Obedience is the pathway to God’s peace, to God’s plan, and to God’s purpose for your life.
Have you been in a state of “unpeace” lately? Could it be that like Jonah, that you have been resistant to God? Could it be that you know what God is calling you to do and you just don’t want to do it? Disobedience leads to turmoil. Obedience leads to peace. Don’t think you can just wait for God to go away and then you will have peace. As the song says, “there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey.”
