Read Matthew 5:5
When a group of boys come upon a mound of dirt, inevitably we began a game called “King of the Hill.” It was pointless really. One kid would stand at the top of the mound while the other kids would try to throw him off. It would last until someone got hurt, someone emerged as the strongest boy, or it started getting dark and we left the game only to come back another day.
We play “King of the Hill” in so many areas of our lives, with the winner being the prettiest, the most popular, the one who accumulates the most money or has the biggest house or has the most influence or power.
In God’s eyes it is really pointless. God says the meek person–the one nobody notices who walks daily with Him, not doing anything grand by the world’s standards, but living in union with Him–he’s the one that will eventually end up with the entire earth.
How can you choose to allow someone else be “King of the Hill” today?
