One of the most valuable treasures that we carry in our life is the gift of good words spoken to us right when we needed to hear them. One of the people who has most influenced my life was a man named Dr. Steve Dill, who for eighteen years was the pastor of Dauphin Way UMC in Mobile. He was a very wise, beautiful, and wonderful man.
If you were to go back to Dauphin Way today and talk to long-time members and ask them to tell you what they remembered about Steve Dill, I know exactly what they would say to you: “The thing I remember most about Steve Dill was that he always had the right words to say at just the right moment when you needed it the most.” What a wonderful way to be remembered—as a person who always had the right words to say.
I would pray that for you. I would pray that you and I would learn to work hard at it and speak the right words. The writer of Proverbs gave us this wisdom of God: “A word that is aptly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver.” Beautiful, positive, uplifting, encouraging words spoken at just the right time are immeasurably valuable. What kind of words are you speaking?
