Nehemiah lives and works in a foreign country, a personal servant to the King. He is captive, owned by the King’s court. Nehemiah’s heart longs for home. As a person of deep faith, his heart is in Jerusalem, the city of God, which was destroyed by the nation where he is now held captive. He has a deep sense of calling that he is to return to Jerusalem and help rebuild the walls that protect the city and the Temple.
But how? He is owned by the King. What hope did he have that the King would set him free to return to a city to rebuild the walls that protect the Temple in which a God is worshipped that the King does not believe in?
Nehemiah did one thing: he prayed for God to provide a way. Then he waited. God opened the door. The King said okay, and Nehemiah went home.
The spiritual truth is clear. If God places a burden on your heart, something that just won’t let go of you, something that you know you need to do, He will provide a way. Is there something you feel called to do, but it just seems impossible to you? Nothing is impossible for God. Pray. Wait. God will provide a way.
