Astonishing Generosity
November 14, 2015
Luke 6:38 “Give and it will be given unto you.”
Did you know that you are made to be generous? We are made in the image of God. God is astounding in His generosity. At the heart of God’s character is generosity. God found life so good and beautiful and wonderful and delightful that He wanted to share it. So He made you. Your creation is an act of astonishing generosity. God is abundantly, astonishingly, and astoundingly generous. John 3:16 says, “God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that anyone who believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” That is astounding generosity from God. We are made for generosity. I meet people who think that when they give to the church or the work of the Lord that they are doing God a favor, but the truth is God does not need your money. God doesn’t want generosity from you. He wants it for you. God knows the more generous you are, the more you become like Jesus. The more you become like Him, the better your life is going to be. The happiest people I know are astonishingly generous. We were not made to be selfish. We are made for unselfishness. Jesus said, “Give and it will be given unto you.” The world says that the more you give the less you will have for you, and that makes financial sense. But God says that is not true. He says the more you give, the more blessed you will be. Maybe it will be a financial blessing, a soul blessing, a family blessing. When you practice astonishing generosity, though, you will be blessed. Go out today and do something that is abundantly, astonishingly, astoundingly, and irrationally generous for someone else. You will be amazed at the blessings that will come your way.
