Living in obedience to God is not life on Easy Street. Think about Moses. God gave Moses a vision of a great future for the Hebrew slaves, which included a beautiful land of their own. Moses was charged with the mission of leading the Hebrew slaves to that land. However, for various reasons, a trip that should have taken a few days ended up taking 40 long years.
During that time, Moses had to endure the constant criticism, complaints and grumbling of the people who thought the trip was not worth it. It was taking too long and it was too hard, they said. He endured the bitter remarks of how they were better off in Egypt as slaves. When Moses turned his back, they begin to
worship a golden calf and voted for Moses to be replaced. And for all his trouble, Moses never even got to enter the Promised Land. He only was allowed to see it across the river from the top of Mt. Pisgah.
Moses serves as a reminder that when God puts his finger on you, the trouble has just begun. But there is no doubt that Moses would have had it no other way. It wasn’t easy, but he got to meet God face to face and to see His glory. He was the first to call God by name. The reward of obedience is not that you don’t have trouble. The reward is that you get to see God.
