Psalm 47:2 – “How often is the Lord Most High, the great King over all the earth!”
There are old maps of the world drawn by mapmakers before the world was explored, before men knew where everything in the world was. The mapmakers would draw the maps of as much of the world as they knew at the time. They would then write a Latin phrase, “Hic sunt dracones,” which means here be the dragons in the uncharted regions and territories of the world. Here be the dragons. For some those were words of warning to stay away. There are scary things in the unknown, but for others those were words of invitation to go see if there truly were dragons. Whether the dragons were real or imaginary, they existed on these early maps as barriers, obstacles in the way of new discoveries. God has a beautiful plan for our lives. He is constantly trying to lead us to the best life possible to grow us into the likeness of Jesus. Along the way you are going to face some giants, dragons, and obstacles. It is how we handle those giants and dragons that will determine whether we find the best that God created for us to have and to be. Some good advice I was given early on in my faith journey was not to stay too focused on the obstacles in my path but to stay focused on God. Sometimes our minds get consumed how big, bad, and ugly the giant is. What if we got consumed with how good, big, and great our God is? Max Lucado wrote, “Let your God thoughts out number your giant thoughts. Focus on the giants, you will stumble. If you focus on God then the giants will tumble.” That is good advice. This week let your God thoughts outnumber your giant thoughts.
