Exodus 14:10 – “As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the LORD” (NIV)
The opposite of faith is fear that paralyzes us and keeps us from reaching our promise lands. We constantly have to fight fear that causes us to question whether or not God can be trusted. Fear will fool you. When the people saw the Red Sea in front of them and the army of Pharaoh coming behind them, they were terrified. Fear fooled them into thinking that life was better where they were. “Let’s go back to Egypt ,” was their rally cry. At least as slaves they were alive and safe, but now, they were stuck between a rock and a hard place. They could not go forward because of the Red Sea and Pharaoh’s army was coming up behind them to kill them. Sometimes the present and future seems so uncertain. We want to go back to the safety of yesterday. Fear makes us long for the good old days. But, the process of life is forward. God’s promise land is always ahead of us. The resurrection of Jesus Christ reminds us that the best is yet to be; that our futures are going to be more glorious than our pasts. When you live by fear, the problems of today will unglue you. Fear says the best has already been. Faith says it is yet to be. Keep walking by faith.
