From Dorothy Thompson’s blog Radical Adoration:
Her name is Macline. She is a five year-old orphan cared for by a sweet grandmother. I was called in to evaluate a heart murmur and potential cardiac abnormality. Tonight my heart is heavy because Macline was diagnosed with malaria, tuberculosis, and endocarditis.
As we explained the severity of the illness to her grandmother, tears filled her eyes. Macline will return to the clinic often for intravenous antibiotics, but it will not be the same care she would get in America. She needs to be in the hospital with around-the-clock care, but the hospital here is so terrible that it is best for her not even to go. Macline’s life may end very early due to the overall poor healthcare here.
We do the best we can with the medicine and technology we have in Kenya, and what we can provide is far better than other facilities around. But still, for Macline, it isn’t enough, and that breaks my heart. I know the Lord is in control. I know His sovereignty and love covers her tonight. It is difficult. I will cry for her. Please pray for Macline and her grandmother. I could use a little prayer in this one too. Missions will transform your life.
