The greatest benefit of generosity is the privilege of knowing the joy of giving. There is a joy blessing in giving that is not found in any other way. People who find the most joy in life are cheerful givers.
Cheerful giving is seen as a privilege not a duty. An expression we hear a lot to describe people who struggle with money is ‘they are living beyond their means’. I recently heard someone come up with a new expression that talked about Christians who are ‘living beneath their privilege.’
We tend to pity those who live beyond their means and who never learn to manage their financial resources and whose lives are consumed with gadgets and toys that they can’t afford and debt that rules their existence. Yet, perhaps a greater tragedy is the person who has been richly blessed but who continues to live beneath his privilege.
Generosity is a privilege that leads you to joy, pure, clear, wonderful joy. Are you missing God’s joy blessing because you are living beneath your privilege?
» Think back on an occasion when you gave generously. How does the joy you experienced motivate you to rise up to the level of your privilege in giving cheefully?
