Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth.” When I think about salt, I think about salt’s creating thirst. If you eat salted foods, you have to go get something to drink. Christianity has the greatest thirst-quencher of all to offer this world. Mother Teresa was speaking to a group of religious sisters from North America. One woman asked her, “Most of the Orders we represent have been losing members, and yet, your Orders are attracting thousands of women. What do you do?’ Without hesitation, Mother Teresa said, “I give them Jesus.” “Yes, I know, but can you be more specific?” “I give them Jesus,” Mother Teresa said. The lady said, “Mother, we are all aware of your fine work. I just want to know about something else.” Mother Teresa said, “I give them Jesus. There is nothing else.” The only thing that the church really has to give the world that they can’t get anywhere else is the thirst-quenching power of Jesus Christ. If you are thirsting for love, hope, healing, forgiveness, purpose, joy, belonging, acceptance, freedom, rest, Jesus Christ is the One who can quench that thirst. If your thirst has been quenched by Jesus, then be salt. Go about living such a God-saturated Christ-like life that it causes other people to be thirsty for what you have, the Living Water of Jesus Christ.
