Pride is an interesting word. There is a healthy pride and an unhealthy pride. Healthy pride is the good feeling that comes when you know that you did something well. There is an unhealthy kind of pride that is called arrogance, where you become totally focused on yourself and think that life is all about you. I know some people who want to be the bride at every wedding and the corpse at every funeral. They have to win every argument and never believe they are wrong. They choke on the words, “I was wrong or I am sorry.” They believe that because they have more of something that that makes them better than other people. Here is the deal. Almost all the problems that exist in life and relationships are related to that sin of prideful arrogance. Proverbs 26:11 says, “Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than him.” Proverbs 11:12 says, “When pride comes, then comes disgrace.” Proverbs 16:18 says, “Pride goes before destruction.” If you get all wrapped up in yourself, the truth is you are way overdressed. The greatest gift you can give to God, to yourself, to the church, to your family, to the workplace is this: Always check your ego at the door. Remember, more of Jesus and less of you and the better your life will be.
