I do not know much about boating laws, but I do understand one sign around marinas, ‘No Wake.’ When you go through congested areas you go slowly so that the waves created by your boat don’t cause others boats to bang together or against a dock. Many marinas have a sign that says, “You are responsible for your wake.”
That is true for humans, too. We all leave a wake of some kind behind us. Our lives have a ripple effect. The way you lead your life, the words you speak, the deeds you do are all influencing someone else’s life for good or bad. Perhaps your life has benefited greatly because you have had people in your life whose wake blessed you and made you better. Perhaps your life has been hampered because you got caught up in the wake of someone who was careless about his wake. What kind of wake are you leaving behind you? Jesus lived His life in such a way that His wake pointed people to God. His life left a well-lit trail to the Father. The greatest blessing we can give to the people we love is to live at such a high level that we leave a well-lit path that leads them to Jesus.
