Haiti Update: Ministry provides opportunity to reach even more deaf children, families
Kathryn Montoya, our Frazer-supported missionary working with the Deaf community in Haiti, shared this update about some amazing opportunities that God has opened up for them to expand their ministry to the Deaf in Haiti.
Through her work with her ministry Commissioned Believers Deaf Ministry, Kathryn and the rest of the CBDM staff are eagerly anticipating the opening of the Haiti Deaf Children’s Home, which will provide the opportunities to reach even more Deaf children. In addition to being able to attend school, children who come to the home will also receive three meals a day, medical care and warm loving home that is centered on Christ and His love for them. She shared an experience that Deaf Community leader Mackenson St. Louis told her about recently, where he had the opportunity to visit other communities where they found several deaf children and adults, and are now working to bring those children to Leveque so they may attend school and stay at the Children’s Home.
Mackenson writes:
“Yesterday we drove from Leveque to Croix de Bouque and to Bonnette which is about a 3 1/2 hours drive in the mountains. We went there to look deaf kids we go to 2 difference place there people very poor they live in small grass huts, live near beach.
When we arrived there many people run look us (because we have a car). That make me sad for them. We find 9 deaf kids live there, so them not never go to school. Myself very sad for that also. All parent accept send them to school in Leveque and stay at the Deaf Children’s Home.
Unfortunately, them said they can’t pay school for deaf kids because they live very poor. I’m understand that situation and told them we would get the money. The parents them can help with few kids with clothes only.
We just share that with you see picture with 7 adults, so I’m very sad for them. They are 7 deaf adults since them grow up near beach with small houses also they never go to school. so them can’t read and learn sign language. Also 4 of the deaf lady adults they already have few children CODAs (Children of Deaf Adults). They meet me them ask me want go to Education also them want live in Leveque house.
I would like to help them give good opportunity good life. So there not have water for drink everyday. only they go get water one bucket for 25gds very far about 45 minutes to walk to get water.
Thank you God bless them”
Kathryn said, “The nine deaf children who will be staying in our Deaf Children’s Home will have opportunities that the seven deaf adults in their community never had.” This includes access to education and a safe and loving home. Please continue to pray for the amazing work that God is doing through our missionaries in Haiti and the people in the Deaf community in Leveque, as they are now reaching out to bring hope to other deaf children and adults in the region.
