Our God must be amused . . . Jim is a contractor by trade who measures and estimates jobs for living; yet when he measured the children’s church to purchase roofing material he made a mistake. Well, sort of! The roof panels are sheets of vinyl. Jim measured twice just like he was supposed to. However, when he converted the measurements to metric he over estimated. We finished the children’s worship center with vinyl sheets left over and you can’t just take the material back for a refund. Martin suggested we donate the material to one of the ladies in the community who is a member of the cell church. He told us she was a widow who lived next door to her son but her living area did not have a roof. Martin, Jim, two other team members, and me walked around the block to visit this lady. She greeted us at the door and invited us in. Like Martin said, her living area was not roofed. She lived open to the elements. I don’t recall her name but I will never forget the words she spoke. As we stood in her “living area” looking up at the sky, she apologized . . . for being poor, for being so poor she could not offer us a chair in which to sit. One of her grandchildren actually brought a chair from a joining room, one slat bottom wooden chair. The problem; there was six of us. What do you say? We looked around her home and then presented her with the roof panels. She was so excited and so were we! I can’t wait to return next year to see her new roof and sit on the floor in her covered family room.
