The Richmond Mission Team arrived safely Saturday night around 7:30 pm cst. We were cordially greeted and welcomed by Pastor Larry Cochran and his wife Mary Kay. They treated us to a wonderful evening meal, and after some time to get acquainted with one another we settled in for a good night’s rest after a long trip.
Today (Sunday July 17th) we attended two church services at the Belmont United Methodist Church in Richmond, and afterwards we helped to cook hamburgers, and serve food at the dedication ceremony for the Carl Ulrich Memorial Food Pantry. This is a ministry of Belmont that reaches out to this community and provides food for over 350 families every Friday of the week! Needless to say, the church membership, and leadership is very proud of this ministry. We are anxious to see how this ministry functions next Friday before we return home.
FROM THE DEDICATION PROGRAM:
Declaration of Purpose
Dear friends, this building, which by the grace of God and human labor has been completed, embodies the obligation of each generation to impart a life of service to the generation following. For the fulfillment of this task we need the blessing of almighty God. Let us, therefore, bring praise for God’s aid in this undertaking, giving thanks for those who, by gifts of their service, shall unite in fulfilling the purpose for which this building is prepared.
Scripture
Psalm 127:1
Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain.
We had a great day and met some really wonderful people who are dedicated to serving God.
Tomorrow (Monday, July 18th) we will begin some light construction work and improvement to the facilities. We will paint the ceilings and walls in the basement classroom area of the church education building. There are 11 classrooms and a long hallway. We will also be replacing the doors to the classrooms with new ones, and replacing the outdated light fixtures with ones that are more efficient. Needless to say, we have a busy week ahead of us. We have a small team, and we are excited about the opportunity to help Christian brothers in need. Keep check on this mission blog to get updates through out the week, and please keep us, and the Belmont United Methodist Church in your prayers.
