When Nehemiah returned to Jerusalem, he was able to organize people, and in fifty-two days the walls around the city were rebuilt. The city and the Temple were protected again.
Now came the hard part: rebuilding the spiritual health of the people. During the time when the city lay in ruins and the people were scattered, there was a loss of faith; there was discouragement, hopelessness, despair. God seemed far away. There was little spiritual vitality or energy.
How do you restore a sagging faith? What is critical to spiritual renewal? How do you grow in a deeper relationship with God? The answer is through the hearing, the reading, and the obeying of God’s word. The faith of the Jewish people in Jerusalem was restored when God’s word became central to their lives again. Every revival, every spiritual renewal in history has come about when God’s people have become faithful to God’s word.
Do you want to have a deeper faith, a closer connection with God? Are you feeling distanced from God? There is a remedy. Get back to the Bible. Immerse yourself in the word of God. Hear it, read it, and obey it
