The talent, knowledge, and skills of people today are astonishing. Take for instance last year’s amazing rescue of the Chilean miners trapped on August 5,2010. The Chilean miners needed saved from a dark, cavernous hole 2,300 feet deep. Human beings developed a plan that would rescue every single miner trapped below the earth’s surface. The world is certainly not starving for ability!
This is what Elijah’s story can teach us today. 450 prophets were not able to bring about the one thing the people needed most: results. The people weren’t looking for some magic trick to be performed. They were looking for results! They were looking for the one true, living God! It only took one man (Elijah) to believe in God’s power standing up against 450 others who said he was wrong. These 450 prophets certainly had some great abilities, yet they were unable to get the job done.
Are you looking for results in all the wrong places? When people look at your life, do they see evidence only that you have human abilities, or do they see evidence of the true and living God?
