Insecurity is the enemy of many people. Too often we wander through life achieving far less than what we are capable of due to feelings of inadequacy. Today’s passage reminds us of the necessity of confidence. Elijah offers a bold prophecy to King Ahab – no rain. A drought is on the way! This was not a vague prediction. Everyone would know if it happened or did not, just by walking outside and checking the weather. But Elijah knew that if God said it, it would happen.
Elijah was certain of his message, but fear could still have taken over. Confidence is needed to deliver this type of message to the king. In the ancient world, it would not have been uncommon for a monarch to execute someone if they brought a message that the king didn’t like.
There may be a moment for you today when confidence is needed. God has given you the skills, the knowledge, the reason, the position, or the power to make a difference. Like Elijah, you can allow your certainty that God will keep his word to empower you to become his confident messenger.
