Jesus sent disciples out in pairs to proclaim the good news. When I think about this passage I often wonder how each of these persons were feeling about going into mission. Were they excited? Nervous? Filled with the Holy Spirit? Had feelings of inadequacy? Ready to take on the world? Probably all of these emotions and more were part of their thinking. The bottom line is that they had faith in Christ and a trust in God that they could be part of the mission.
Today, Jesus is still sending people out to share the grace of God with others. God is a sending God who nudges us to “GO” across the street and around the world. We may have feelings of fear or inadequacy, but Jesus does not send us alone. He promises to go with us, to empower us, and to guide us as we go.
Jesus is still saying to us, “You can do this!” Then Jesus waits for the answer with outstretched hands, providing a different way to live. It’s called abundant life! “GO” and get some of it!
