Missions will transform your life. For the past 5 weeks my daughter Dorothy has been on a medical mission in Kenya. The words of my devotional this week will be her words written through her daily blog, “Radical Adoration.” –Tim Violet was found wandering alone in a corn field, no shoes, tattered clothes, flies swarming her wounds, and a swollen belly due to worms and malnutrition. The only family she has is an alcoholic grandmother. This precious girl is left to fend for herself, to feed herself, to protect herself. At five years old, she holds the key to their one room shack no bigger than my bathroom. At five years old Violet has lived through more difficulties than my entire 28 years combined.
Violet’s story is just one among many. These children are desperate. Sometimes I know it’s uncomfortable to learn about them, but these are children of God. I truly believe God’s heart beats a little stronger for each of them. Violet will come to our orphanage. Her physical wounds will be healed and medicine will be given. School is a must, and because she is so young, she will catch up quickly. Violet will know real love. She will be given clothes and a protein-rich diet. She will learn of Jesus. Violet’s life will be saved in more ways than one. Jesus promises, “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.”
